My Story
I grew up in the small town of Olympia, Washington, a place that shaped my understanding of what it means to belong to a community. The Sweet Legacy Youth Leadership Foundation is built upon a 30-year history of service that began as my grandmother's lifelong dream. Her dedication to her own 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Olympia was my first true inspiration. Every Christmas and Thanksgiving, we would gather at our local church to feed the homeless, an experience that taught me the profound value of community, family, and friendship. I created this foundation to honor those roots and to ensure that the spirit of selfless service continues to flourish for the next generation.
My path later took me to a structured youth center in Chattanooga, TN, where I completed an internship. Working there, I witnessed firsthand the transformative power of a safe, guided environment for young people. It was there I realized that leadership isn't just taught; it is cultivated through consistent, intentional support. It was a little village setup for youth without parents; they had a house mom and dad and a structured environment for the kids, featuring a clothing giveaway and sporting activities like a basketball court. It inspired me to do something similar, mixed with my own ideas of being more sustainable and passing that down to the youth, such as gardens and growing your own vegetables.
Later, I became the owner of an organic farm in Washington state. Running that farm taught me the most profound lessons of my life: that true growth cannot be rushed, and that it requires deep patience, intentionality, and the right environment to flourish. Just as I nurtured life from the soil, I realized that our youth require that same deliberate, patient environment to reach their full potential.
